SSC CHSL Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2017-18


The CHSL 2017 Exam (Tier-I) will be conducted from 04.03.2018 to 26.03.2018 in  Computer Based Examination System. The tentative Date of Tier-II Examination (Descriptive Paper): 08.07.2018.  So, Students, you have abundant time to prepare for the CHSL 2017 Exam. Today In this post we will review the exam pattern and comprehensive syllabus of SSC CHSL 2017 Exam. Vacancies: 3259. Tentative vacancies for the posts of LDC/ JSA, Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant and DEO are 898, 2359, 2 and Data Entry Operator Grade”A”- Nil, respectively. The Age Limit will be considered as on 1st August 2018 (18-27 years). These are tentative vacancies, SSC will notify in future as well. So, do not worry about it. SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern


Tier-II Paper will be a descriptive Paper of 100 Marks in ‘Pen and Paper Mode The duration of the paper would be for one hour. This paper has been introduced to assess the writing skills of the candidates which is necessary for Government jobs. The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/Application of approximately 150-200 words. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent. The performance in Tier II would be included for preparing merit. The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English. A part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.


SSC CHSL Tier-III Examination



Tier-III of the Examination would be the Skill Test/ Typing Test which would be of qualifying nature.The final merit of the successful candidates would be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in Tier-I and Tier-II.


SSC CHSL 2017 Exam Detailed Syllabus 



General Intelligence: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation ,Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Drawing inferences, Figural Classification, Punched hole/ pattern-folding & unfolding ,Semantic Series, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Coding and de-coding Other sub-topics, if any Numerical operations.


English Language: Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One-word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.

Quantitative Aptitude: Arithmetic: Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers

Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time and work.

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.

Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.

Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base

Trigonometry: Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2 + Cos2 =1 etc.,

Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar- diagram, Pie-chart

General Awareness: Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

बड़ा सवाल : डाटाकहां से लीक, एसएससी या एजेंसी से 
बिहार, पुणे से आए फोन कॉल के बाद उठा सवाल, कहीं लीक तो नहीं हो रहा कर्मचारी चयन आयोग का डाटा, फोन करने वाले पैसे की भी कर रहे हैं डिमांड

बेरोजगारीकी मार में परीक्षार्थियों के सामने असमंजस की स्थिति खड़ी हो गई है। पिछले दिनों ऐसी ही स्थिति खोहरा ठाकराल निवासी संग्राम सिंह के साथ हुई।
संग्राम को पिछले तीन दिन से लगातार फर्जी फोन कॉल्स से कर्मचारी चयन आयोग की परीक्षा में नंबर बढ़ाकर पास कराने के ऑफर मिल रहे हैं। फर्जी कॉल्स से परेशान संग्राम ने भास्कर को बताया कि पहला फोन 13 नवंबर को आया। इसमें एक व्यक्ति ने स्वयं को बिहार से होना बताया और मुझे मेरे फार्म में भरी गई पूरी जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि तुम्हें पास होने के लिए 22 नंबरों की जरूरत है। यदि तुम चाहो तो हम तुम्हें पास करा सकते हैं, लेकिन इसके लिए तुम्हें 22 हजार रुपए देने होंगे। संग्राम ने पूरी बात सुनने के बाद अकाउंट नंबर मांगा तो उस व्यक्ति ने अकाउंट नंबर देते हुए पैसा जमा कराने की बात कही। इसके बाद 14 नवंबर को आए दूसरे कॉल ने नींद उड़ा दी। जिस शख्स ने यह फोन किया उसने खुद को एसएससी में खुद को गोपनीय शाखा में कर्मचारी होना बताया और कहा कि तुम्हारी कॉपी मेरे पास आई है और तुम्हें पास होने के लिए 20 नंबर चाहिए। यदि तुम चाहो तो अकाउंट नंबर में 17 हजार रुपए जमा करा दो। इसके बाद एक और फोन आया उसने भी पैसा मांगा। संग्राम ने बताया कि मुझे याद आया कि मैने एसएससी की हायर सेकंडरी लेवल के एग्जाम का सिर्फ आवेदन किया था परीक्षा में शामिल नहीं हो पाया था। इसके अलावा जब पेपर ही ऑनलाइन हुआ था तो कॉपी कैसे सकती है। यह बात जब फोन पर बताई तो वह गाली-गलौज करने लगा और खुद को रसूखदार बताते हुए बोला कि मेरी पहुंच ऊपर तक है और मेरे मंत्रियों से संबंध है। इन सभी बातों की रिकॉर्डिंग भास्कर के पास मौजूद हैं। 
किसी भी परीक्षा में कोई भी एजेंसी परीक्षा पास कराने के मामले में कोई फोन नहीं करती है। हो सकता है कोई आपसे ठगी करने की फिराक में हो। फोन कॉल की बातों में आने के बाद हो सकता है कि आप आर्थिक नुकसान के शिकार हो जाएं। ऐसे में आपकी सतर्कता ही बचाव है। ऐसे फोन कॉल्स से बचें और इसकी सूचना पुलिस में दें या संबंधित एजेंसी को भेजें। नॉलेज फिलिक
यह फोन कॉल सिर्फ एक मामले में सामने आया है। ऐसे कई और भी मामले हो सकते हैं जिनमें बेरोजगारों को फंसाने के लिए और पैसे ऐंठने के लिए इस तरह के फोन किए जा रहे हों। इसमें बड़ा सवाल यह खड़ा हो रहा है कि अभ्यर्थियों के बारे में पूरी जानकारी आखिर कौन दे रहा है। कर्मचारी चयन आयोग या फिर वो एजेंसी को परीक्षा करवा रही है।

Application Fees: (Rs. 100 for Gen/OBC; Nil fees for ST/SC/Women/PH Candidates)

The facility of filling online application and payment of fee, through State Bank of India (SBI) will be available from 18.11.2017 to 18.12.2017. However, the option for generating challan will be closed on 18.12.2017 (5.00 PM) while it could be submitted till 20.12.2017 for payment through SBI branches.

AGE Limit:
18-27 years as on 01.01.2018 (Candidates born not before 02-01-1991 and not later than 01-01-2000).


Educational Qualification ( As on 01.08.2018):

Must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. 

For Data Entry Operator, DEO in (C&AG) Only:

Educational Qualification : 12th standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject form a recognized Board or equivalent. 

Skill Test : A speed test of not less than 15000 key depressions per hour for data entry work to be ascertained through speed test on computer.



Scheme of Examination: 

The examination will consist of a Computer based Written Examination (Tier-I), Descriptive Paper (Tier-II) and Typing Test/Skill Test (Tier-III) Examination for the post of Data Entry Operator, Postal Assistant & Sorting Assistant (PA/SA), Lower Division Clerk and Court Clerk.

Computer Based Examination (Objective type):



There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

Post Preference: 

Candidates will be required to indicate in the online application form for the Examination, the order of preference for the posts of Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Data Entry Operator, LDCs and Court Clerk as under:
