1). The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) signed a MoU with the Sports Ministry of China to crack down on the supply and manufacture of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDS) in China
·         China is world’s top producer and exporter of PEDS which are manufactured and trafficked by underground labs
·         By signing this MoU exchange of information between the Interpol and China’s law enforcement agencies will be done to target and dismantle PEDS producers and help other countries catch drug cheats among athletes
·         PEDS are sold online on Chinese websites and shipped to other countries by regular mail
·         WADA is a global non-governmental organization established in 1999 under theDeclaration of Lausanne
·         Aim of WADA – harmonizing anti-doping regulations in all sports and countries
·         It is a collective initiative led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
·         Headquarters of WADA – Montreal, Canada



2). The Union Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the implementation of Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) project of the Indian Air Force (IAF) with allocation of Rs. 8000 crore
·         This decision was taken on the proposal forwarded by the Defence Acquisition Council(DAC)
·         DAC had approved the addition of 4 more nodes of IAF’s IACCS
·         IACCS – is an automated command and control system for Air Defence (AD) that integrates different air sensors and radars to protect Indian airspace
·         The addition of 4 more nodes to the already existing 5 IACCS nodes will help IAF to cover isolated islands providing a security umbrella to India
·         The air headquarters will get a composite air situation picture as the following radars will be integrated
a.    Air Force
b.    Indian Army
c.    Indian Navy
d.    Civilian radars




3). Reserve Bank of India approved domestic companies to borrow money from pension funds, Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF) and insurance funds as part of the External Commercial Borrowings(ECB) to encourage overseas funding
·         The draft framework on ECBs seeks to lower the all-in cost borrowing by 0.5% to make sure that the funds are borrowed from abroad at a reasonable interest rate
·         The modifications in the ECB guidelines will help replacing the ECB policy with a more rational and liberal framework
·         The revised framework is expected to retain more qualitative parameters for the normal ECB
·         The framework for the rupee-denominated bonds will be announced separately
·         The following trusts will be permitted to raise funds
a.    Real estate investment trust
b.    Infrastructure investment trust



4). Industrialist Mukesh Ambani declared as India’s richest person for the 9th consecutive year in a row in the 2015 Forbes magazine’s India rich list
·         Mr. Ambani is the Chairman, Managing Director (MD) and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)
·         RIL is India’s 2nd most valuable company by market value after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)
·         The list was compiled using the shareholding and financial data obtained from the following sources
a.    Individuals
b.    Families
c.    Stock exchanges
d.    Analysts
e.    Regulators
·         Combined wealth of India’s 100 richest persons remained largely unchanged at 345 billion dollars in 2015
·         Co-founders of Flipkart Sachin and Binni Bansal have made their debut in the list and featured at the 86th position with a net worth of 1.3 billion dollars each
·         The following are the 4 women who featured in the list with a collective wealth of 9.2 billion dollars
a.    23rd - Savitri Jindal – 3.8 billion dollars
b.    54th – Leena Tewari
c.    57th – Indu Jain – 1.9 billion dollars
d.    74th – Qimat Rai – 1.4 billion dollars

5). Marathi film Court has been selected as India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language category of the 88th Academy or Oscars Awards 2016
·         Court is the 3rd Marathi film to be shortlisted for India’s official entry to Oscars after the following 2 films

b.    Harishchandrachi Factory – 2008
·         Court – is a courtroom drama film that examines the Indian legal system through the trial of an aging folk singer in a lower court in Mumbai

c.    Cast – Vira Sathidar, Vivek Gomber, Geetanjali Kulkarni, etc.
·         As of now the film has won 18 awards at various film festivals across the world includinghonors at the following country’s film festivals

6). Volkswagen Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn resigned after the revelation that the company had manipulated US diesel car emissions tests
·         Volkswagen – German-based world’s largest carmaker in terms of sales
·         The company had admitted that it had deceived the US regulator Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in exhaust emissions test by installing a device to give more positive results
·         The media has named this manipulation issue of diesel car emissions tests as Diesel Dupe

7). Baseball legend Yogi Berra from United States who inspired the famous cartoon character of Yogi Bear passed away
·         He was born in 1925 in Missouri, United States
·         He had played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1946 to 63
·         Last match – 1965
·         He had spent 19 years of his baseball career with the New York Yankees
·         In 1972 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame
·         He was one of the greatest catchers in baseball history
